The leader you're becoming isn't the leader you set out to be.
You took this role to make a difference — not to lose yourself in it. If the gap between the leader you want to be and the one who shows up every day keeps getting wider, this work is for you.
The Cost of Keeping it Together…
You've given everything to the mission. On paper, you're succeeding. Inside, it's more complicated. You're the steady one others rely on — the fixer, the go-to leader.
But lately you're noticing:
You're working harder than ever and it's not working.
Saying yes to everything. Avoiding the conflicts that matter. Performing confidence you don't feel.
The gap keeps widening.
Between what you believe about leadership and what you're tolerating every day. Between the leader you want to be and the one who shows up in meetings.
The cost is getting harder to ignore.
You're making compromises you wouldn't have made two years ago. You're not sure if you're being strategically patient or just stuck.
You're ready for something different.
Not tips and hacks. Not another leadership framework that sounds good in a workshop and disappears by Monday. A more honest way of leading that doesn't require you to abandon yourself to do important work.
If you see yourself here, you're not broken and you're not alone.
What Becomes Possible…
Leaders who do this work don't become different people. They become clearer ones.
You make decisions from clarity, not anxiety. You stop saying yes to everything and start leading from actual priorities — not from the fear of what happens if you disappoint someone.
You stop absorbing what isn't yours to carry. Your board's panic, your team's uncertainty, the political stress of the moment — you learn to distinguish between what's yours and what isn't.
You know whether to stay or go and why. Not from burnout or impulse, but from an honest assessment of what this organization can hold and what your leadership requires.
Your team experiences you differently. Grounded instead of reactive. Direct instead of performatively busy. Present instead of bracing for the next crisis.
You don't need to care less. You need a different way of carrying what you care about.
Why Work with Chris…
I've spent over 20 years in the trenches of mission-driven work — leading advancement and fundraising teams at Johns Hopkins, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, and a national conservation organization. I've raised more than $100 million, navigated three major leadership transitions, survived institutional politics that had nothing to do with the mission, and lived both the rewards and the cost of high-performing leadership in purpose-driven organizations. I'm not coaching from the outside. I'm still in it.
I've also done deep personal work — therapy, spiritual practice, and honest reckoning with how my own protective strategies were costing me the things I cared about most.
Today I bring all of that together: real-world institutional experience, research-based coaching frameworks, and the lived journey from armor to alignment. I work with mission-driven leaders who are ready to lead with less protection and more presence — so they can keep doing work that matters without losing themselves in the process.
If you're carrying more than you'd like and ready for a different way forward, I'd be honored to walk with you.
The Coaching…
This is a 90-day, six-session coaching engagement built for leaders who are already busy and can't afford another obligation that drains energy. It's structured, not open-ended. Here's what happens:
We start with who you want to be. Not your job description — your actual leadership vision. What would it look like to lead from your values instead of from the anxiety of the moment? We get that on paper.
We name what gets in the way. Every leader has a set of protective patterns that made sense once and now run the show — saying yes to everything, avoiding conflict, over-functioning, emotional shutdown. We identify yours. Not with shame. With clarity.
We build a plan you can actually use. Two to three concrete shifts, tied to your real context — how you run a meeting, how you respond when triggered, how you set a boundary you've been avoiding. Not abstract goals. Specific experiments you run between sessions.
We practice in real time. You try things. We debrief. You adjust. New defaults start replacing old reactions — not because you read about it, but because you lived it.
We make sure it holds. No leader stays aligned in isolation. We look at who keeps you honest, where your system supports your growth, and where it doesn't — including whether this organization is still the right place for your leadership.
Six sessions. 75 minutes each. 90 days. $2,500.

The Engagement…
The Armor to Alignment program is a three-month, one-on-one coaching engagement. Six sessions, 75 minutes each, built around your specific leadership context. $2,500.
This isn't open-ended therapy. It isn't a leadership course. It's a structured process with a beginning, a middle, and a deliverable: a written leadership vision, a named set of patterns you can recognize in real time, and a 90-day development plan you'll actually use.
I also work with leadership teams and mission-driven organizations on culture, trust, and leadership development. If you're exploring how to bring this work to your team, let's start with a conversation.
